NEW DRIVING LEGISLATION THAT MAY COME IN LATER THIS YEAR TO THE NORTHERN IRELAND DRIVING TEST
The new prosed changes are:
1) lower the provisional licence age to 16.5
2) a mandatory minimum learning period of 12 months for provisional licence holders
3) removal of the 45mph speed limit for learners and new qualified drivers
4) motorway lessons when accompanied by an Approved Driving Instructor in a dual controlled car
5) “N” plates (for new drivers) will replace the “R” plates and must be displayed for 2 years
6) compulsory logbook for for learner driver training 7) new drivers up to the age of 24 will not be allowed passengers between the age of 14 and 20 for first 6 months, other than immediate family, unless there is a supervising driver over the age of 21 in the passenger seat that has held a full licence for 3 years
